How St. James Institute handles information shared through this website.
Saint James Institute, also known as St. James Institute ("St. James," "we," "us," or "our"), explains in this policy how we collect, use, disclose, and retain personal information in connection with sjisga.com, related inquiries, newsletter subscriptions, donations, fundraising campaigns, and supporter communications. Personal information means information that identifies you or can reasonably be linked to you.
This policy covers our handling of information received through our website and related email, telephone, mail, messaging, and fundraising channels. It applies to information we receive about gifts made through third-party platforms; those platforms also provide their own notices for information they process. Additional notices may apply to particular events, volunteer opportunities, program applications, employment relationships, or services. Such notices explain the relevant collection and do not remove protections required by law.
Information you provide. When you contact us, we collect the information you submit, which may include your first and last name, email address, optional telephone number, preferred language, reason for contacting us, and message. When you subscribe to Walking with Hope or other updates, we collect your email address and subscription preferences. We also retain relevant correspondence and records of your requests or permissions.
Donation and campaign information. Depending on the giving method and your choices, we may receive your name, contact or mailing details, donation amount, date, currency, frequency, designated purpose, campaign or fundraiser reference, transaction status, acknowledgment preferences, and messages you provide. For tribute gifts, matching gifts, or sponsored fundraising, we may also receive relevant honoree or notification-recipient details, employer information, or fundraiser affiliation. We collect these details only where relevant to the activity you choose. Checks may display your signature, address, and bank routing and account numbers. Bank transfer records may include a sender name, payment memo, and transaction details.
Technical information. Our website host and technology providers may process information such as IP address, browser and device type, operating system, requested pages, referring page, access time, and error or security logs when your device connects to their services. Cookies and similar technologies are discussed below.
Information from others. We may receive information from fundraising platforms, payment and banking providers, grantmaking organizations, employer giving programs, a person introducing you to us, or an organization coordinating an inquiry. We use that information subject to applicable law, the permissions associated with its collection, and relevant platform terms. If you provide another person’s information, share only what is necessary and ensure that you have an appropriate basis to do so. Please do not send detailed personal histories about someone else through the general contact form.
Our general contact and subscription forms are not intended to collect identity documents, Social Security numbers, passwords, full payment card details, medical records, or detailed information about abuse, immigration status, or other sensitive circumstances. For an initial support inquiry, provide a brief introduction and a safe way to contact you.
If additional information is needed to assess program eligibility or provide support, we will explain the requested information, its purpose, and an appropriate way to provide it. Where required, we will provide an additional notice and obtain consent before collecting or using sensitive information. Sending an inquiry does not guarantee admission, financial assistance, or accommodation.
We use personal information to respond to inquiries; communicate about programs and partnerships; administer donations, recurring gifts, campaigns, and acknowledgments; reconcile payments and grants; coordinate matching or tribute gifts you request; send updates you request or otherwise lawfully receive; maintain supporter relationships and accurate financial and organizational records; manage communication preferences; operate and protect our website; investigate misuse; and comply with applicable legal obligations. We may review donation and campaign records to understand fundraising results and plan supporter engagement consistent with your preferences. We may also use relevant records to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
We limit collection and use to information reasonably needed for disclosed purposes. A general reference to fundraising or institutional growth does not authorize unrelated uses of your information. Before collecting additional categories or introducing materially different purposes, we will provide the required notice and obtain any required consent.
Authorized personnel. Information may be accessed by authorized St. James personnel and representatives who need it for the purposes described above, including personnel supporting our work in the United States and Bolivia.
Service providers and fundraising services. We may disclose relevant information to providers that help us host the website, receive forms, manage donor and contact records, deliver communications, administer campaigns, process payments, reconcile gifts, or protect systems. Webflow hosts our website and supports its native forms. Zeffy is one online giving service we use. Other services may be introduced for the functions described in this policy. A provider acting on our behalf receives information for its agreed services under applicable contractual and legal requirements. Banks, payment networks, fundraising platforms, and intermediary charities may also act independently for activities such as account administration, fraud prevention, or legal compliance; their notices describe those activities.
Advisers and legal requirements. We may disclose information to accountants, auditors, attorneys, insurers, regulators, or authorities where reasonably necessary for professional services, a legal obligation, a valid legal process, preventing fraud, or protecting people and legal rights.
Your direction and organizational changes. We may disclose information when you request or authorize it. If an organizational restructuring or transfer of operations affects personal information, we will apply applicable legal requirements and provide notice where required. A successor handling the information will be expected to protect it consistently with applicable law.
Partners and publicity. Supporting our mission does not entitle a partner to donor lists or private beneficiary files for its own fundraising. We seek permission before publishing an identifiable donor acknowledgment, testimonial, photograph, or personal story unless another lawful basis clearly permits publication. Selecting a public acknowledgment option on a fundraising platform may authorize display of the information described there. Contact us about concerns or changes to material we control. Changes on an independent platform may also require a request to that platform.
We currently offer online giving through Zeffy and giving by Zelle and check. As our fundraising develops, we may offer additional donation platforms, crowdfunding or peer-to-peer campaigns, payment processors and digital wallets, event-related giving, employer matching or payroll giving, and grants through donor-advised funds or other charitable intermediaries. These are possible channels, not a statement that every channel is currently available. The giving page or transaction flow identifies the relevant service and, where a separate charity receives the gift, the legal recipient. We provide additional privacy information where the collection or processing differs from this policy.
Payment processing. Information you enter into a provider’s checkout is processed by that provider and its payment partners. St. James receives the transaction and donor records made available for administering the gift. Available records depend on the method, provider, and your choices. We do not request payment account passwords. Zelle transfers take place through participating financial institutions; we receive the information available in recipient transaction records. For checks, we use and retain check and deposit records as needed for processing, reconciliation, and lawful recordkeeping. Do not send payment card details through our contact form or email.
Intermediaries and donor choices. When a separate charity, employer program, or donor-advised fund receives a donation and later makes a grant to St. James, it may control processing, receipts, and the information passed to us. Some gifts arrive with limited donor information or no donor identity. An anonymous public acknowledgment does not necessarily hide your identity from the platform, banks, legal recipient, or St. James. Review the choices presented for that particular gift. We respect the communication and data-use restrictions accompanying information received from these channels. A gift does not automatically enroll you in our newsletter.
Provider notices and requests. Review the privacy notice and terms available in the relevant giving flow. A provider’s receipt of information does not authorize us to disregard this policy or our own obligations. Contact us about information we hold and the provider about records it independently controls. Deleting personal information does not by itself cancel a recurring gift or reverse a payment; contact us or the relevant giving provider for those instructions. Your choice on one service may not automatically update another, so identify the relevant service when asking us for help.
Our website and its providers may use cookies or similar technologies for website operation, security, and features you choose to use. Your browser generally allows you to restrict or delete cookies, although doing so may affect features. Embedded donation forms, media, or other services may receive technical information when they load, before you submit a form. Independent services may also collect information when you follow a link or interact with them, under their own notices. Before enabling new analytics, email engagement tracking, advertising, or other nonessential tracking on our behalf, we will assess the practice, update applicable disclosures, and implement any required consent and opt-out controls. This paragraph does not itself authorize such tracking or replace those controls.
We do not sell personal information, rent donor or subscriber lists, or disclose personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use personal information for targeted advertising or solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects. These statements concern St. James’s practices; independent services you visit have their own policies.
Our website does not currently change its behavior in response to the older browser Do Not Track signal. Global Privacy Control and other legally recognized universal opt-out signals are distinct from Do Not Track. Where applicable law requires us to act on such signals, we will do so. Under the practices described here, we do not engage in sale or targeted advertising for which an opt-out would be necessary. If those practices change, we will update this notice and implement required choices before the new processing begins.
When you subscribe, we use your email address to send the updates you request. You may stop newsletter or fundraising emails by using the unsubscribe option in the message, where available, or by emailing Anthony@sjisga.com and asking to unsubscribe. We will honor requests promptly and within any applicable legal deadline. We may retain a limited suppression record to avoid sending further unwanted messages.
Unsubscribing does not prevent a necessary response to your inquiry, a donation receipt, or another nonpromotional administrative communication. We do not automatically add donors or people who contact us to a newsletter list. Where a platform requires separate signup or restricts direct communications, we respect those conditions. Permission given to an independent platform does not necessarily authorize St. James communications, and the reverse is also true. Providing a telephone number for an inquiry does not by itself authorize automated marketing calls or texts.
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, taking account of the nature of the information, the relationship involved, applicable accounting and legal requirements, and any unresolved inquiry, dispute, or legal hold.
Inquiry records are kept as needed for follow-up and relevant organizational records. Subscription records are kept while the subscription is active and as needed to document preferences or suppress further messages. Donation and financial records may be retained after a deletion request when required for accounting, tax, fraud prevention, or other legal purposes. Technical logs are retained according to operational and security needs and applicable provider arrangements. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or de-identify it, subject to lawful retention and normal backup cycles.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the information we handle. No website, email system, or storage method can be guaranteed completely secure. Please avoid sending sensitive documents through ordinary email or the general contact form. If an incident triggers a legal notification obligation, we will provide the required notifications in accordance with applicable law.
You may contact us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you, or to change your communication preferences. Depending on your location and the law applicable to St. James, you may also have rights to confirm processing, receive a portable copy, obtain information about disclosures, withdraw consent, restrict or object to certain processing, or opt out of sale, targeted advertising, or certain profiling. Some rights are subject to statutory thresholds, exemptions, and exceptions; this policy does not represent that every state privacy law applies to us.
Send requests to Anthony@SjiSga.Com with the subject “Privacy Request,” or use the mailing address below. Describe your request and the email address or other contact information used in your dealings with us. Do not include identity documents or sensitive financial information in an initial request. We may request limited additional information to verify identity or an authorized agent’s authority. We will use verification information for that purpose and related security or recordkeeping needs.
We will respond within the time required by applicable law and explain any permitted extension or inability to fulfill a request. We may retain or withhold information where necessary to comply with law, protect another person’s privacy, or meet another applicable exception. Where a law provides an appeal right, send an appeal to the same address with the subject “Privacy Appeal.” We will explain our decision and any available route to complain to the relevant attorney general or regulator. We do not discriminate against people for exercising applicable privacy rights.
Our general website and subscription services are intended for adults and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 through these services. If you believe a child under 13 has submitted personal information, contact us so we can investigate and delete it or take other action required by law.
For inquiries concerning a person under 18, a parent, guardian, or appropriate referring professional should contact us first and share only the minimum information needed. Any further collection for a youth program requires an appropriate process, notices, and permissions. We do not make private program information public merely because a young person receives support.
St. James’s work connects the United States and Bolivia. Authorized personnel and providers may access or process relevant information in those countries or in other countries where approved services operate. Privacy laws may differ between jurisdictions. We assess relevant international access and transfers and apply the safeguards required by applicable law. Opening a new country operation or serving a new audience may require an additional local notice and procedures before collection begins. Using our website does not waive your rights or replace legally required consent.
Links to payment platforms, social networks, messaging services, and other organizations lead to services with their own privacy practices. This policy describes our handling of information, not every independent provider’s handling. For Webflow’s provider notice, visit https://webflow.com/legal/privacy. Zeffy makes its privacy notice available through its checkout and help center at https://support.zeffy.com/legal-data-privacy-security-rt4a1.
We may add or replace service providers and introduce fundraising channels for the purposes described in this policy, subject to applicable law, contractual restrictions, and your choices. We will keep relevant service and collection disclosures current. If a change introduces new information categories, materially different purposes, recipients, tracking, or international handling, we will assess and provide the additional notice, choices, and consent required before implementing that change. We will not treat an update to this policy as automatic permission to apply materially broader uses to information previously collected under more restrictive promises.
We will post revised policies here and update the effective date. For material changes, we will provide additional notice and obtain consent where required. Continued use of the website does not substitute for affirmative consent when it is required. Contact us to ask about a previous version or a change affecting your information.
